World Book Day 8th March

Somerton Middle School took part in World Book Day on the 8th of March 2010. Pupils and teachers came to school dressed as characters from books. The range of fancy dress pupils had on was incredible from Sponge Bob Square Pants to the classics. Prizes were given to the best fancy dress in each year group.

Rock Challenge

On Tursday the 4th of March over 70 students travelled to Southampton to take part in the Rock Challenge 2010. After months of rehearsal, practise and organisation the day had come for the students to entertain 1000 people in the Southampton Guild Hall.

Virtual Learning Environment, over 60,000 hits!

Since its roll out in September the Somerton Middle School, Virtual Learning Environment has had over 60,000 hits. Students have created web pages and content for their E Portfolios. An estimated 2 million students from 204 countries have been taking part in World Math Day and Somerton Middle School students have joined them. Year 5 to 8 have been playing against student and teachers from countries as diverse as Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Australia and Ecuador. Young Chamber Annual Conference 25th February 2010

Twenty nine students from Year 8 went to the Young Chamber Annual Conference held in the Cowes Yacht Haven. The students interviewed over twenty business people on a whole range of issues. Businesses taking part included, Isle of Wight Radio, McDonalds, Betapak and Plaza Ice Cream.
