What was your favourite subject when you where at school? Geography because I had a good teacher so I enjoyed the lessons. When were you most scared? | Global Warming - Children's page/blog - 12/6/2008
In RE we have been researching Global Warming and the effects it is having on our planet. I looked at logging. Here are some of the facts I found: • We are losing Earth's greatest biological treasures just as we are beginning to appreciate their true value. Rainforests once covered 14% of the earth's land surface; now they cover a mere 6% and experts estimate that the last remaining rainforests could be consumed in less than 40 years. • One and one-half acres of rainforest are lost every second with tragic consequences for both developing and i...

| Ventnor Field Trip - Jane Palmer - 12/10/2007
A very foggy start to the day for 17 students from 5B as they headed out on their trip to Ventnor. The weather though, didn't deter the excitement of the students and their teachers Mrs Brodie and Mrs White from having a great time. The students were off to Ventnor as part of their studies on costal landscapes. They were joined for the day by a guide from the Educational Field Trip Team to explain the costal work preservation undertaken at Ventnor, and to explain to students how coasts are formed and maintained. Lunch was enjoyed on the beach with the weather improving, ...

| Read the winning speech delivered at the Island Rotary Youth Speaks Competition - Jane Palmer - 18/7/2007
Racism by Taz Whiston Hello ladies and gentlemen. It is nice to see so many of you here today. As you know from our introducer, Jonathan Webb, my name is Tarragon Whiston and my speech for today and to represent Somerton Middle is about the horrendous matter of racism. What is race exactly? Let's keep in mind, I'm not going on about a group of children, running for their lives up the school field trying to win first place on sports day. No! I'm on about the human race and the basic information on the subject. Race means a group of animals in...

| Updates to department pages - Liam Thom - 21/6/2007
Teachers can now upload up to four files per item in the department page. They can also allocate some text to each file; for instance where there is a link to Beethoven's 9th Symphony it would be sensible to add the text "part of Beethoven's 9th Symphony". It is also possible to specify items as "sticky" which means they should stay at the top of the list, even when newer items are uploaded. Sticky items are itentified by having a darker title bar. The third change is to disable all HTML tags within these blogs. This is a measure to maintain the integrity o...

| The Earliest Olympic Games - Jane Palmer - 10/6/2007
Did you know - The earliest Olympic Games were held in about 776BC. In those days the only event was a short sprint, from one end of the stadium to the other. Gradually over the years more were added until there were four days of many different competitions. Most spectators had to find somewhere to pitch their tents or sleep rough, but important visitors and athletes had special accommodation. It would have been very hot and overcrowded, and the water supply was poor. It didn't stop people coming though! Only men, boys and unmarried girls were allowed to attend the Olympic Ga...
