Welcome to Somerton Middle School
Somerton Middle School, opened in 1971, is a mixed, Local Authority
(LA) comprehensive school for pupils aged 9 to 13. Most pupils come
from the local town, Cowes, from the main feeder primary schools,
Love Lane, Northwood and Cowes Primary. The pupils follow a broad
based curriculum and I am very proud of the work our pupils produce,
guided by our staff. When you visit the school you can see examples
of the pupils' talents all around the school.
We have had lots of success in sports particularly netball, football
and athletics and quite a few of our pupils and teams represent the
island on the mainland because of their abilities. Our girls'
football and netball teams have reached the Island finals.
Our public speaking and dressage teams have won the Island competitions.
Most pupils, when they leave us at the end of year 8, go to Cowes
High School although some go to other
destinations including Medina and Carisbrooke High Schools.
